Second Edition of the Special Olympics Kingdom Games in Curaçao
From November 20 to 24, 2025, Curaçao will host the second edition of the Special Olympics Kingdom Games, an inspiring multi-sport event that brings together athletes from across the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Participants from Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and the Netherlands will come together to celebrate inclusion, perseverance, and the power of sport.
With the support of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (OWCS), Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Curaçao, FDDK, and Thinc ahead, the event will transform the SDK sports complex into a stage for remarkable performances in football, athletics, swimming, and bocce. Exciting powerlifting demonstrations and other showcases will add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Niels Cannegieter, Director of the Special Olympics Kingdom Games, shares:
“We’re thrilled to be organizing the Special Olympics Kingdom Games once again. We have great confidence in our collaboration and, with the experience gained in 2023, we’re convinced we can make it an even more joyful celebration for all athletes. We are happy to invite our (new) friends of the Special Olympics movement this November. I would like to thank the Ministries of OWCS, VWS, Special Olympics Inc., Special Olympics North America, Special Olympics Carribean, FDDK and of course Special Olympics Curaçao for their continuously support and dedication to this project. “
The first edition, held in Bonaire, brought together over 150 athletes who competed in six sports and truly embodied the spirit of the Special Olympics. Now, Curaçao continues this legacy, offering athletes the opportunity to push boundaries, build friendships, and shine on an international stage.
More than just a competition, the Kingdom Games celebrate perseverance, unity, and the joy of sport.
Come cheer, show your support, and be inspired — Curaçao welcomes you with open arms!
